2. Incredibly sensitive
The female covert narcissist will be incredibly sensitive to any form of criticism, whether real or perceived. And it doesn’t matter if it’s meant to be kind and constructive criticism either. The female narcissist cannot handle any form of criticism. Remember, they believe they’re special and superior human beings. And they are very protective of this false self they have constructed.
So, anytime someone holds a mirror up to them to show them some other reality, then, the delusional one that they want to live in, it’s very upsetting to them on a very deep and personal level. So they may react with a sarcastic remark to the criticism and didn’t dismiss it as beneath them. Or they might react with contempt and anger. Or by getting very defensive. 3. Exaggerated and phony empathy
This is one I always see, specifically with the female covert narcissist, and that is an exaggerated and phony empathy. Because their empathy isn’t genuine, it’s incredibly self-serving. They are only expressing this empathy to get something in return. It’s a manipulation tool she uses to pull the wool over people’s eyes of what her real and true motivations are, which is getting something for herself.
Could be someone she wants to take advantage of for money. Could be someone she wants to rub elbows with for prestige. And could be because she’s trying to portray herself in a specific way to a specific group of people. But it isn’t sincere. And if you watch her closely, you will usually be able to tell that this empathy isn’t genuine. Because like I said, it tends to be exaggerated and very over-the-top.
