8. Showing gratitude as a way to get you to do as they demand.
Relationships and friendships are widely perceived as opportunistic by narcissists. They assess what they stand to earn versus what it will cost them. Narcissists typically aim to get as much as they can while giving as little as they can.
More skilled narcissists recognize that in order to keep people pleasant, they must give as well. They understand that the occasional compliment or favor might keep you on their good side, continuing to provide them with more of what they desire because narcissists may offer a bit, but they take a lot more.
7. When a narcissist expresses gratitude, they are just lying to you.
Narcissists are very good at lying or exaggerating certain facts in order to appear more powerful or impressive. They also do it to feel better about themselves and their place in society. As a result, it’s understandable that one of the narcissist’s greatest fears is having his or her lies and exaggerations exposed.
It’s not only that being called out would embarrass them or make them appear less than who they are, it also displays how weak and insecure they are to the rest of the world.
