9. Deep levels of compassion.
Narcissists are looking for a target that has the capacity to feel deep levels of compassion. Again, this is desired so that the narcissist will be seen by others as being a decent and compassionate person. But more importantly, the narcissist knows that someone who feels high levels of compassion will be easier to exploit and deceive than someone who does not feel very high levels of compassion. The narcissist knows that they are going to need to provoke the target’s compassionate nature into feeling sorry for the narcissist in the future.

10. Trauma background.
It’s not uncommon for the narcissist to seek out a target who has a little bit of trauma in their background. This is useful to the narcissist because they can more easily get a person who has experienced trauma to actually believe the gaslighting that lies ahead for them.
People who have a little bit of trauma in their background will be easier typically to manipulate into thinking that they are the actual problem and the guilty party, which of course the narcissist knows that they will be shifting blame onto the victim for everything that goes wrong, whether they are the responsible party or not.
