2. They would try to discredit you.
When a narcissist feels like they are starting to lose control over you, they would feel threatened by the prospect of you confiding in someone else. At this point, they would preemptively start a smear campaign against you to ensure their good standing among your peers while also eliminating any potential help you might get.
This method would effectively isolate you and make you more vulnerable to their advances. Surrounding yourself with trusted friends or family members and keeping them close would greatly reduce your chances of being a victim of discrediting.

1. They use your empathy against you.
Narcissists have cognitive empathy. This is the kind of empathy that allows them to rationally comprehend how another person is feeling. What they lack is emotional empathy, which is the kind that abounds in empaths. Knowing this, narcissists mimic emotional responses to get what they want. They know that empaths have naturally generous personalities and would most likely give in to what they want. Stand up to the narcissist and evaluate the situation before you end up something you otherwise would never do.
Take time to look, check for signs of sincerity, and make sure to stand firm on your decisions. Being an empath is a wonderful thing yet has challenges of its own. When the empath finally defends him for herself and wins, the narcissist will not stand by and simply accept their defeat. Beware of these things that most narcissists do to undermine and control you.
