 When individuals validate one another, they make each one feel seen and understood. A narcissist lacks emotional empathy and thus is incapable of validating another’s thoughts, feelings, or sense of self. Because of their deep-seated insecurities, they attempt to prove their worth by bringing others through invalidation. Invalidation is a means of gradually erasing your sense of self.

 A narcissist can easily make you comply with whatever they demand once you have been stripped of your identity. Since narcissists believe themselves to always be right only their point of view counts, and therefore, only their feelings matter and no one else’s. Validation from others is a good thing. However, just like confidence, the most important validation should come from yourself. Validating your feelings and ideas will help you understand and control them better, resulting in a stronger sense of self and improved emotional management.

 3. They try to gaslight you.

 You may have experienced gaslighting if you have ever had to deal with a manipulative narcissist in your life. It is a powerful form of psychological torture that makes a person question their sanity, recollection, or sense of reality. Do you feel like you’re being gaslighted? Try to verify this by checking your responses. Do you constantly question yourself? Do you wonder if you are being too sensitive?
