3. Addictions
The third major distraction is their addictions. Narcissists have addictive personalities and are easily addicted to things that make them feel good and forget about their issues. I have to say that not all addicts are Narcissists, but all Narcissists are addicts. And whether it is drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, or more innocent stuff like video games, gardening, collecting items; whatever it is, Narcissists are bound to be obsessed with something.
Therefore, innocent hobbies turn into must-haves, that the Narcissists need in order to get through their day. To the point where their day will not be complete unless they have done that activity. Basically, Narcissists become dependent. Their addictions are like crutches that they need day in and day out in order to get by. It is an issue that Narcissists have, and depending on the addiction, some can be more dangerous than others.
But to conclude, Narcissists work hard to stop themselves from being with themselves as they are only reminded of their worthlessness and the shame within. So, they turn to these types of things in an attempt to bring relief and excitement to their troubled minds. Obsession is a common theme with Narcissists. And from what I have gone through today, we realize that they become obsessed with people, activities, and things.

Relationships offer a distraction. Addictions offer a distraction and their continual need for progression and development of their Fake Self; all these allow the Narcissists to get away from what troubles them. All of these things provide a temporal escape for the Narcissist, and they don’t care who they use or hurt in the process. What matters is that at that moment their misery is forgotten.
