Sign 3: You see glimpses of the narcissist’s true self here & there.
Narcissists are dead within, and that deadness comes to the surface when the mask slips. You see those flat, soulless eyes. You see those black eyes staring into your soul. You see that aggression on their face. You see that predatory stare, that predatory body language, and you don’t recognize this person in that fraction of a second. It’s just a glimpse, it’s just a revelation, but it’s very strong enough for you to notice. In the love bombing stage, there are episodes of microaggression. These people are driven by control. But in the love bombing stage, they have to kill their ego. They have to go along. They have to say yes to you, but at the expense of their own drive to control you.
When they say yes to you, a part of this gets suppressed. Here and there, their mask slips, and your “no” gives them a narcissistic injury which brings that rage up. But it’s subtle, it’s intense yet subtle. You just ignore it because you do not know this person fully. You feel like they are disappointed or something else has happened. But that is a revelation, that is an exposure of their true self. Their true self also comes out when they treat other people, especially those who are below them, very badly. And you kind of think, maybe they’re like this and it doesn’t have to do anything with me, because they are love bombing you, they are idealizing you. So it just gets ignored by your brain. You just think, well maybe it’s not that serious, probably it was an episode, they were not doing well at work, all those excuses and justifications we could come up with.

But it is the exposure, it is how they are going to treat you and how they treat you later down the line in the stage of devaluation. Also, their true self is revealed when they’re sleeping with you, sleeping as in sleeping in the same bed. You feel like you are sleeping next to a snake, a predator. The energy is so dense and repelling, your body aches, you feel connected but at a deeper level, you feel like you’re sleeping next to a corpse or someone who is not actually there. They feel like a ghost. It’s your soul telling you, the divine telling you, you are next to a parasite, this person actually is dead.
