4. Freedom
At some point, you show the narcissist that you want to make choices for yourself, and they do not like the idea of that because they have to be the authority, they have to be in control, and they have to be the ones who make all the decisions. They expect you to just do as you’re told. If you don’t, they see it as though you’re being rebellious- you’re not going along with that agenda.
When maybe you just want to make your own choices, you just want to be your own separate person, but narcissists have this need to be in charge. They need to have influence and authority over you so that they are able to control you so that they are able to direct the course of events, and then everything can pan out in the way that they would like.

Narcissists don’t care that you have different ideas or preferences. Sometimes they don’t even notice because they’re too preoccupied with their own interests and needs, which is why they cannot tolerate any differences. Anything that threatens their control will drive them insane.
