1. Empathy.
I don’t think there is a more important trait for a narcissist to find in a target other than empathy, why? You might ask!
First of all, because empathy is the one emotion that narcissists are incapable of feeling, so for that fact alone, they are interested in someone who has the capacity to feel deep levels of empathy. Also, the narcissist knows that if they have a partner that feels and exhibits empathy by association, they might too be considered a person that feels and experiences empathy.
And the other reason this is so critically important to the narcissist is because they know that they must have a partner that possesses deep levels of empathy because they know that sooner rather than later, their mask is going to start to slip off, and when that happens, they will need to exploit your empathetic nature. They will have to make you feel sorry for them or pity them so that you will not leave when faced with this certain abuse you will be experienced by them in the near future.
2. High levels of loyalty.
The narcissist is looking for someone with super high levels of loyalty. So he or she may be observing you and your relationships to see how committed and loyal you are to the people in your life. The narcissist knows that again he or she will have to exploit this character trading you later when the mask begins to slip.
So, finding someone who is incredibly loyal is very important to the narcissist. Their plan is for you to become completely devoted and loyal to them and dismiss the other people in your life that you are loyal to.
