Number 3: They will become envious.
Narcissists are often envious of others and they can’t stand it when their former Supply starts looking better than them. When this happens, narcissists will become jealous and begin to try to make themselves look better in comparison. They’ll go out of their way to get the same haircut or clothing, as their formers apply to feel like they’re still better than them.
Narcissists have a deep fear of being replaced, which is why they constantly seek new sources of Supply. When a former Supply looks excellent, it can be challenging for a narcissist to handle because it brings up all of their insecurities about themselves. The more their one-time Supply succeeds without them, the more likely it is that their feelings will turn into an unhealthy Obsession.
Number 4: Narcissists will feel like their power has been taken away.
The thing about narcissists is that they don’t just want to feel like the most crucial person in your life. They also want to ensure you know them your life’s most important person. That’s why narcissists feel their power has been removed when a former Supply starts looking good. Narcissists need to keep people around them feeling inferior. They may even attempt to damage your relationship with someone else to keep you in their Circle.
Once you’ve dated a narcissist, you know that that can manifest in different ways; from subtle put Downs to outright lies about your looks or achievements. Setting boundaries is the best way to deal with this kind of behaviour. Narcissists thrive on having power over others, but they won’t be able to do that if you refuse their attempts at manipulation and don’t let them get away with it.
Number 5: They will be angry and hurt.
Narcissists tend to rely on their supply for validation and reassurance. They can be very obsessive about their self-image, so they’ll be disappointed if their former Supply looks better than they do. It can be devastating when narcissists realize their former Supply is outgrowing them. They will feel Furious and hurt.
Narcissists expect everyone to fail, so when someone succeeds without the help of the narcissist, it makes them feel like they’ve been left behind. It also means that their former Supply is now using their self-esteem for themselves instead of for the narcissist.
