All right, Pop Quiz: What scares a narcissist? And I know there’s one answer that most of you will guess, but there are at least six more. So I encourage you to pop your guesses into the comments and read till the end to see if you got them all—or maybe if I left out a few, and we should make this list even longer.
Fear is an emotion we all experience at one point or another in our lives. It’s natural. However, there are some people who fear more than others in certain aspects of life. Who are we talking about in particular? Narcissists. Love them or hate them, we’ve all come across them in one form or another. It’s easy to feel badly towards them and cast them off as evil people who are emotionally unavailable. But the truth of the matter is that they have battles just like you and I.
If you have been in a relationship with a narcissist, you know that they like to project an image of being untouchable. Depending on the person, maybe they’re afraid of sharks or spiders, but they certainly aren’t afraid of losing anyone, least of all you. Instead of showing any real vulnerability, they’ll go into full-on bully mode. They get away with it because the anger or rage they project when you touch on their fears gets you to back down, and their true fears and vulnerabilities get to hide for another day.
