First of all, and in my opinion, the number one reason this happens is because the narcissist is addicted to narcissistic supply. When you think about the narcissist, you need to think of him or her as a drug addict. And the drug they are addicted to is narcissistic supply. They are addicted to feeling special, and that need is filled by the attention and adoration of other people.
Narcissists used a narcissistic supply as the evidence and the validation that they are indeed special, unique, and superior. It validates the delusion of the false self and serves to suffocate the wounded and secure true self that feels deeply flawed in and worthy. compare car insurance online.
The problem, however, is that narcissistic supply is temporary. Like all drug addicts, a fix of their drug of choice is short-lived. And very soon, the hunt for more drugs is soon underway.
