Narcissists are mean, twisted individuals and they enjoy punishing and hurting people. A supply is someone who feeds the Narcissist’s ego. And the Narcissistic Supply they get from these people is usually in the form of the person’s reaction to the Narcissist’s good or bad behaviours.
So, be it praise, love, attention, adoration or anger, annoyance, or pain; both types of reactions feed the Narcissist’s ego and make them feel powerful because the fact that they can evoke any kind of emotional response from you is a win in their book. And although Narcissists need their Supplies and the fuel they get from them, it is important to the Narcissists that they can maintain their control over them. And there is one effective way they can do it without getting their hands dirty or being accused of anything in particular.

Because in the eyes of the Narcissist, there are times when a source of supply has stepped out of line and needs to be punished. And because Narcissists are easily offended, this can be just about anything.
For example, if you speak to them in a tone of voice they don’t like. If you took too long to respond to a text message, they sent you. But also, if you outright refuse to do something for them or disobey any of their commands. The list of faults a Narcissist can find is endless, and a lot of times, it comes down to what mood they are in, which is also something that can vary drastically throughout the day.
