6 Weird Hygiene Habits of a Narcissist

5. Using shared personal items without boundaries.

Have you ever been through this? Let me know in the comments. Narcissists often use your personal things without asking. My father did this all the time. Imagine picking up your toothbrush and it’s already wet, even though you haven’t used it yet—or finding their hair in your comb. They’ll use your razor, towel, deodorant, or other grooming items like your stuff doesn’t matter.

Sometimes you even catch them using your expensive skincare or lotions, leaving the lids off or making a mess. You might find your razor dull or dirty because they used it without telling you. These actions show they don’t respect your space, your boundaries, or your belongings. They do it to show control and to upset you—like your feelings don’t count.

6. They intentionally leave dirty dishes and food remnants everywhere.

Adding to the chaos is their inexplicable habit of leaving dirty dishes and half-eaten food almost everywhere in the house. It’s as if they intentionally want to live in filth or assert their disdain for cleanliness—another reason why I call them demons. You may find used plates, cups, or utensils scattered randomly in various rooms, often accompanied by stale food or rotting leftovers. They do not just leave these items temporarily; sometimes dishes sit untouched for days, attracting insects and foul odors. It is another calculated act of disrespect, expecting you to clean up their mess and silently communicating that domestic chores are way beneath them.

In short, these six gross hygiene habits aren’t just odd behaviors; they show disrespect, manipulation, and control. From picking their nose in front of you and intentionally making a mess with their body to messy grooming habits, showing off with hygiene, using your personal things inappropriately, and deliberately leaving dishes and food everywhere, narcissists consistently show they don’t care about your comfort or dignity. While these actions alone don’t prove someone is a narcissist, their intentions clearly reveal their manipulative and disrespectful nature.

So, what should you do? You need to protect yourself by facing the truth. Most importantly, don’t let anyone take away your self-respect. And the best way to do that? You already know: walk away and start your healing.
